There is a wooden statue called Medová baba located above the theNováSedlica village in the region of Snina. You shall not miss it when descending Rjabáskala. The statue belongs to Galériamonumentálnejsochárskejtvorby, the gallery of monumental art of sculpture. The statue is 7.1 m high and it is made of 7-metre-long trunk of oak tree. The name of the statue is connected with history. The statue was named after ŽofiaMaťašovská, an ordinary modest woman who moved in the village from Poland in 1928 together with her husband. While her husband was working in the forest, she and her two daughters dealt with beekeeping. The woman looked after 80 hives approximately. Word of this successful beekeeper and her quality honey was spreading very fast. Remote chocolate plant in Cologne was her largest customer. Life of this industrious woman left an indelible imprint on the hearts and minds of local people. The wooden sculpture created by Marek Žitňan in 2002 reminds visitors of the remarkable woman.
